In these frightening and uncertain times, we are standing strong in our values – and acting on them. No matter what, we’ll keep fighting to elect pro-choice champions and to create a state where the bodily autonomy of all people is protected at all levels of government.
We believe abortion is a vital and necessary part of reproductive healthcare. Abortion must be legally protected and accessible to all. We believe in bodily autonomy and dignity. We believe all people should be able to access the full spectrum of reproductive care, including comprehensive sex ed, cancer screenings, STI testing/treatment, and contraception.
Attacks on abortion are attacks on all of us. Abortion bans threaten our lives. We will resist any attempts to undermine access or criminalize abortion and reproductive care. Our endorsed candidates will too, at all levels of government.
We believe in a multi-racial democracy and a representative government. We’re proud to have endorsed a diverse and deep bench of pro-choice champions, including Black, Latina/Latinx, Indigenous, and AANHPI leaders. These leaders are experienced, compassionate, and an integral part of the coalition that defends and expands reproductive freedom here in Minnesota. Make no mistake – the current administration’s executive orders are intended to take us back to before the civil rights movement.
We won’t obey in advance. We challenge all forms of oppression in our work, including racism. In a state with maternal and infant health disparities, especially for Black and Indigenous birthing people, we must continue our racial justice work and elect leaders who are committed to doing so as well. We believe in safety, which includes safe and healthy pregnancy and childbirths for all people who chose to have children.
We believe in the rights of trans Minnesotans to receive gender affirming care and to lead full, dignified lives. Trans people deserve bodily autonomy and self-determination, just like all of us. The current administration’s attacks on trans people are cruel and vicious – and intended to be so. They are scapegoating a vulnerable population to further their own political goals. They want to erase trans and queer people from public life and push them back into the closet. If legal rights can be taken away from some of us, they can be taken away from all of us.
We believe in the deep value of community building, education, and civic engagement. The current administration is dismantling essential programs and government services, at home and abroad, that support dignity, well-being, and self-determination. Their policies protect the powerful, enrich the wealthy, erode belief in democracy, and trample on the rest of us. The impact of these destructive actions are already being felt by the most vulnerable.
In contrast, we believe government should safeguard the bodily autonomy of all people. We’re a nonpartisan organization with a 40+ year track record of teaching pro-choice champions how to run for office – and win. Our work makes our government more representative and responsive to the needs of all Minnesotans. We train and activate campaign operatives through our Political Leaders of Tomorrow Program to build pro-choice political power. We’re a pathbreaking organization that believes everyone should bring their whole self to all tables where decisions are being made.
We are a reproductive rights organization that uses the reproductive justice lens in our work. We believe everyone should be able to choose not to have children – or choose to have children and raise them in safe and healthy environments. Inspired by our legacy and armed with a new strategic plan, we’re creating a future with reproductive freedom for all.
If you’ve ever thought about running for office before, now it is the time to do so. We need your voice – a future pro-choice champion – defending bodily autonomy and dignity at all levels of government. We need you to speak with us in support of abortion rights and reproductive freedom.
In solidarity,
Team Women Winning
