Saint Paul, Minn. (March 5, 2024) – Today, Women Winning, Minnesota’s largest women’s political organization, announced the endorsement of pro-choice champion Rachel Bohman for Congress in Minnesota U.S. House District 1.
“As radical anti-choice politicians continue to try to chip away at the opportunity for Reproductive Freedom in Washington, it’s clear that we need fighters from every corner of Minnesota to serve as leaders and stand up on behalf of all Americans. Rachel Bohman is the fighter we need from Southern Minnesota,” said Nevada Littlewolf, Women Winning Executive Director. “We are confident that Rachel’s deep community roots and strong record of public service will help advance the cause of Reproductive Freedom and help champion the rights of all individuals to make decisions about their own bodies in our nation’s Capital.”
“I am honored to receive the endorsement of Women Women for my campaign for Congress in Minnesota’s first district. As a former Women Winning board member, a mom of two daughters, and a champion for reproductive choice in Minnesota and all over the country, I recognize that this moment is absolutely crucial for the wellbeing and healthcare freedom of women everywhere. A woman’s reproductive decisions shouldn’t be made by anyone except for herself and her doctor. I’m thrilled to have Women Winning’s partnership in the work of bringing representation to Southern Minnesota that reflects the real needs of women voters–and every voter–in the district.”
Rachel Bohman grew up in Rochester, Minnesota as the daughter of a single mother. Growing up, her family struggled with poverty and addiction and Rachel worked her way through college and law school to create a better life for herself and her family. After serving as Head of Election for Hennepin County, she returned to her hometown in Rochester to raise her two daughters. Remaining deeply committed to the well being of her community, Rachel was elected to the Rochester Township Board and then served as an Assistant County Attorney. Rachel is running for Congress to ensure that all Southern Minnesotans have access to the same opportunities that she did and to bring her vision of shared prosperity across the district to Washington.
Women Winning has been working for more than 40 years to elect pro-choice women to all levels of public office, from park board to President of the United States. In that time, Women Winning has raised and contributed millions of dollars to pro-choice women’s campaigns, endorsed thousands of candidates, and has more than tripled the number of pro-choice women elected officials in Minnesota. The organization’s targeted endorsement program centers on competitive districts for pro-choice women candidates with the goal of electing a truly representative government and creating a more equitable Minnesota.
Women Winning will make additional endorsements in 2024 and will continue organizing to ensure reproductive rights are protected by electing pro-choice women up and down the ballot.
