Women Winning endorses Kamala Harris for President in 2024

Today, Women Winning, Minnesota’s largest women’s political organization, announced the endorsement of pro-choice champion, Vice President Kamala Harris, for President of the United States of America in 2024.

Saint Paul, Minn. (July 23, 2024) – Today, Women Winning, Minnesota’s largest women’s political organization, announced the endorsement of pro-choice champion, Vice President Kamala Harris, for President of the United States of America in 2024.

“It is with immense pride that Women Winning endorses Vice President Kamala Harris for President. VP Harris is the most qualified candidate–through her work as a prosecutor, Attorney General, Senator and Vice President, she has proven herself again and again. She is a champion for working families and a fierce advocate for reproductive freedom. I am confident she will take meaningful action on reproductive rights, climate, public safety, infrastructure, and so much more as President,” said Nevada Littlewolf, Executive Director of Women Winning. “We thank President Joe Biden for his years of service to our country. His selfless act of lifting up Vice President Kamala Harris shows his continued commitment to the service of the United States. Today, we rejoice in a renewed sense of hope and unlimited optimism that will bring us back together as a country.”

Pro-choice women across Minnesota and the country are enthusiastically showing up — as donors, volunteers, delegates and voters — to make history by electing Vice President Kamala Harris to be the first woman (ever) and person of color to serve as President of the United States. Vice President Harris is preparing to officially accept the Democratic Party’s nomination for President.

Kamala Harris has already made history as the first Black woman elected as Attorney General of California and the first Black woman to represent California in the United States Senate. As Attorney General, she oversaw the second-largest Justice Department in the country and took on special interests including the gun lobby, big banks, and big oil. In the United States Senate, she has distinguished herself as a fighter for the American people on issues ranging from women’s rights and choice, to corruption and election interference.

Overturning Roe led to a reproductive health crisis that disproportionately hurts rural, Black and Indigenous women and allows cruel abortion bans across the country. As Vice President, Harris launched the first-ever White House Maternal Health Day of Action in 2021 and introduced the Blueprint for Addressing the Maternal Health Crisis, which lays out more than 50 actions that over a dozen federal agencies can take to improve maternal health. The Biden-Harris Administration enabled states to provide a full year of postpartum coverage to new mothers on Medicaid and protected and built upon the Affordable Care Act, which requires insurers to cover pregnancy care, childbirth, and newborn care. They launched the Maternal Mental Health Hotline, a confidential, 24-hour, toll-free line where new and expecting moms can connect with professional counselors.

Women Winning has 74 additional endorsements of pro-choice women running for critical offices across Minnesota in 2024, from city council to United States Senate. Women Winning will make endorsements through the summer and continue organizing to ensure pro-choice women win up and down the ballot in November.

Women Winning’s targeted political program centers on competitive districts for pro-choice women candidates with the goal of electing a truly representative government and creating a more equitable state and nation.

About Women Winning

Women Winning was established in 1982 by a multi-partisan group of 25 women determined to increase the number of pro-choice women in public office. With more than 19,000 statewide members, Women Winning is Minnesota’s largest women’s political organization.

Women Winning has been working for more than 40 years to elect pro-choice women to all levels of public office, from park board to President of the United States. Women Winning offers robust, formal training, mentorship, and support from the time a pro-choice woman first considers a run for office to election day.

When I reflect on the things that we passed, and the number of bills that affect our community so greatly, it’s not only an honor and a privilege — it’s remarkable what happens when people who care so deeply come together and are honest and passionate about the work.
