Women Winning Responds to the United States Presidential Election Outcome

Today, Women Winning, Minnesota’s largest women’s political organization, acknowledges the grave reality of Donald Trump’s election to President of the United States.

Saint Paul, Minn. (November 6, 2024) – Today, Women Winning, Minnesota’s largest women’s political organization, acknowledges the grave reality of Donald Trump’s election to President of the United States. This outcome represents a significant setback for women’s rights, queer rights, and reproductive freedom, threatening to undo years of hard-won progress in Minnesota and continuing the deterioration of abortion rights nationwide and ushering in a new era of reproductive oppression.

“Trump’s track record of hostility toward reproductive rights is well-documented. During his previous presidency, he championed policies that restricted access to safe and legal abortions by appointing three Supreme Court justices who overturned Roe v. Wade, slashed funding for reproductive health services, and rolled back protections for women’s health. His return to power signals an urgent threat to the rights and autonomy of Minnesotans, leaving many to fear for their future,” said Women Winning Executive Director Nevada Littlewolf. “And yet, despite his horrific record on reproductive freedom, he continues to lie and misrepresent his beliefs to trick voters into believing that he isn’t an extremist. His agenda, including the deeply disturbing, anti-democracy Project 2025, remains the single greatest threat to the American people and their bodily autonomy.”

“Kamala Harris, by contrast, is a trailblazing figure in American politics, shattering barriers and inspiring millions with her message of equity, justice, and reproductive freedom for all. Her candidacy was trailblazing in its candor about the necessity of abortion, the deeply personal nature of reproductive decisions, and the need to improve maternal and infant care. Harris’ legacy will continue to motivate women to aspire to leadership positions and fight for reproductive freedom that benefits all communities. While we are outraged and devastated by the results, we celebrate the courage and determination Kamala demonstrated,” said Littlewolf. “Kamala’s campaign has paved the way for future generations of women leaders, and Women Winning remains committed to our mission of supporting and electing pro-choice champions.”

Women Winning continues to advocate for pro-choice women candidates, providing the necessary resources, training, and mentorship to ensure that women and non-binary peoples’ voices are represented in government. The fight for gender parity, abortion rights, and reproductive freedom continues. We remain dedicated to empowering pro-choice champions to run for office, regardless of electoral outcomes. We will not waver in our mission to empower these champions to run for office and to resist the reproductive oppression of the Trump administration. The stakes are incredibly high, and we stand ready to fight for a future where everyone has the right to make their own choices about their bodies and lives.

Together, we re-commit to resisting, organizing, and advocating for a just and equitable society. Americans were outraged and mobilized after Roe vs. Wade was struck down, and we will once again continue the fight to make sure all people have access to abortion care and the right to make decisions about their own bodies in Minnesota and beyond.

Lucia Wroblewski

Voters should know that I’m the best candidate for the job. I have a record of public service that spans more than 35 years, and that service comes from the heart. Not only am I competent, but I’m also smart. What truly matters is my willingness to do the hard work. I didn’t step into this role for the spotlight; I’m not a person that loves to see my picture on campaign literature or in front of the camera. I simply want to get the work done.
